Kitchen Dreams.

I thought my first major project on the new home would be the bathroom until I realized how much I hated being trapped in my kitchen.

Before

While I made minor adjustments like paint color and cabinet repair I have been living with this configuration for over a year.

So came trying to find a contractor.  I swear I scare contractors…maybe I’m a bit intense.  I had 4 guys look at the space and only one quote!  It was really reasonable and we jived well so I said lets get moving.

I had one of the new cabinet designs at work (Nonn’s Design Showplace) take my Ikea kitchen plans and translate them into one of our budget friendly cabinet lines, Countryside.

I then spent endless hours on SketchUp figuring out exactly what I wanted.  Here is my first concept.

Concept1

The tall cabinet next to the refrigerator is strategically placed to conceal all my pipes.  While this makes the cabinet almost useless it  is the only way to open the kitchen without major plumbing work.

While I know white cabinets are a must the other finishes are just food for thought at this point.

The need for white comes from my love for crisp clean lines but also to match my new appliances. While I would love to do cabinet fronts on everything it was just not in the budget so I went with Whirlpools new White Ice collection to help everything look uniform.  With such a small space stainless would really chopped it up.

The space to the left of the microwave is one of my favorite design elements.  Having this cabinet sit on the counter will act as an appliance garage keeping the counter tops clear of clutter.

Now to getting out the checkbook and knocking down walls!
